PhD (Cornell University), Master in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology (Cornell University), Bachelor of Biological Sciences (University of Buenos Aires)

CV: https://www.conicet.gov.ar/new_scp/detalle.php?id=33496&datos_academicos=yes

CONICET independent researcher

Curator of the IADIZA Ornithology Collections

Interests: I am interested in applying an integrative approach to the study of avian behavioral ecology. My projects generally involve intensive fieldwork with detailed observations of bird behavior in wild environments. I am currently focused on understanding the interactions between mating systems, parental care, reproductive biology, life histories and communication using the Grass Wren (Cistothorus platensis) as a study model. To meet this objective, we daily monitor the behavior of ringed individuals throughout the breeding season.

Associate Researcher CONICET

Assistant professor. Facultad de Ciencias Exactas y Naturales, UNCuyo

Interests: My research focuses on the study of reproductive behavior of birds in anthropized areas. I am particularly interested in the behavioral changes of theCreamy-bellied Thrush (Turdus amaurochalinus) in sites with different degreesof human impact, the use of anthropic structures and materials and habituation to different urban characteristics. On the other hand, I am interested in knowing the effect of bordering watercourses spaces in urban areas on the permanence, survival and reproduction of native birds.

Agustín Zarco

Dr. Biological sciences (Universidad de Buenos Aires); Biologist (Universidad Nacional de Córdoba).

Assistant researcher (CONICET), Professor (Faculty of Veterinary and Environmental Sciences, Juan A. Maza University), and Assistant Professor ( Faculty of Exact and Natural Sciences, Cuyo National University)

Interests:  Currently, I’m working on three complementary research topics: avian ecoepidemiology, birds as biological controllers, and mixed bird flocks ecology. In addition, I’m interested in epistemology, and, for my studies, I prioritize a naturalistic vision. I supplement this with the dictation of undergraduate and postgraduate subjects in curricular spaces associated with my lines of research.

Ramiro S. Arrieta

Ph.D. in Biological Sciences (University of Buenos Aires).

Degree in Biology (University of Buenos Aires).

Postdoctoral student

I’m a postdoc student at the Avian Biology Research Team. I’m particularly interested in integrating molecular techniques with fieldwork to answer questions about behavioral ecology of birds. My Ph.D. project focused on studying the genetic mating system of the Grass Wren (Cistothorus platensis) and understanding those behavioral factors involved in the variation of extra-pair paternity rate. Currently, I´m evaluating how maternal investment is affected by extra-pair paternity in this species.

RESUME

Postdoctoral fellow at CONICET – Teacher at DGE Mendoza

Interests: I am interested in assessing the impacts of land use change on the diversity patterns of focal bird species and their habitats at different spatio-temporal scales. I am currently working on the characterization of bird response to different anthropic disturbances. My goals focus on providing guidelines for the sustainable management of natural resources aimed towards the conservation of biodiversity and the provision of ecosystem services.

PhD Student – CONICET

I am interested in understanding the effect of urbanization on animal behavior. Currently, in my Ph.D. I am researching the behavioral changes of the Creamy-bellied Thrush (Turdus amaurochalinus) associated with the anthropization of natural areas. In this study, I analyze the differences in breeding biology, nest characteristics, diet, habituation to human presence, and stress levels between a rural and urban population of the Creamy-bellied Thrush.

Luciana López

Degree in Ecology (Champagnat University)

CONICET Doctoral Fellow

Interests: I am motivated to learn and understand about communication in birds. Currently, I am starting my doctoral thesis project in this area. In it, I will take southern Sedge Wren (Cistothorus platensis) as a study model and evaluate the function of alarm calls (vocalizations given in front of a predator) they emit. In this way, I hope to achieve a better understanding of what the species seeks to convey through them.

Doctor in Biological Sciences (Universidad Nacional de Cuyo)

Degree in Biology (Universidad Nacional de Cuyo)

I am interested in the mechanisms, functions, and evolution of animal communication. I have studied the vocal behavior of Grass Wrens (Cistothorus platensis) throughout the breeding season. I am trying to understand the effect of intra e intersexual selection on male songs. I wonder to know the information acoustic signals contain and how they are used in different social and reproductive contexts.
