distintas situaciones dominiales (reservas provinciales, parque nacional, ejidos
urbanos).

SUMMARY
The 35% of the argentinean part of the Isla Grande of Tierra del Fuego is cov-ered
by forest, which represents one of the most important genuine resources of the
province.
Nevertheless, we lack of detailed and classified information (species distribution,
forest types, domain, state of conservation, etc.) to be used like a basic tool
to get a forest general management plan.
The goal of this report was to inventory and classify the woodlands through
sat-ellite images. To achieve this objective we use SPOT imagery of 1995 summer
and aerial photographs through a geographic information system, with the support
of preexistent cartography and field infor-mation.
The forest was classified into five attributes: specie, forest type, lands do-main,
conservation status and topography.Forest composition is basi-cally dominated
by three species:
Nothofagus pumilio, N. Antarctica and N.
betuloides. The first two species grow in monoespecific and extensive stands
and cover the 44% and 25% of the total forest cover respectively. The rest of
the for-ested area is dominated by mixed forest composed by the three mentioned
species and with a little participation of Drymis winterii and Maytenus magellanica
as second order tree species.
Productive forest is composed mainly with Nothofagus pumilio, representing a
30% of the forest total area. The 20% of this productive forest has been logged,
the rest of the area remains without silvicul-tural intervention. On the other
hand, it is necessary to that the half of the forest area belongs to private
owners, while the rest of the forest are public under several
ways of domain (provincial reserves, na-tional park, municipality).
Under the geomorphologic aspect, the 33% of the forest grow over planeundu-lated
terrain and the 37% over steep mountainside terrains. The island and gallery
forest doesn’t overcome the 5%.
The remind of the area is unclassified Nothofagus Antarctica forest.
This way the obtained results are a basic tool to meet a forest general management
plan.

desmonte selectivo, sistema silvopastoril.
SUMMARY
A forest regeneration and the production of pastures, in a forest submissive
processing of selective clearing, in the Arid Chaco of Cordoba was evaluated. There
was an increase in the production of dry matter of the herbaceous layer, of
more that three times with respect to normal values of the area. Differences
in the percentage of ground with cover of canopia was found, but in the total
percentage of fail to take unusable area for the cattle by shrubs and in the
one of naked ground were not, being both minors after the processing.

SUMMARY
In the phytogeographycal region of the Arid Chaco of Córdoba the pressure
that the small producers realize on the forest resource “algarrobo”
is high due to the loss of the economic value of the products that are commercialized.
One of the forms to increase to its value and quality is through the control
of Torneutes pallidipennis Reich (Coleoptera: Cerambycidae), main causal agent
of the damages produced in the branches of Prosopis aff. flexuosa, where the
larva develops located longitudinal galleries in duramen. The objective of this
work is toconsider the economic loss produced by the infestation of this insect.
Four condi-tions of site that arise from a factorial adjustment of the factors
arboreal den-sity and the quality of site, with two lev-els settled down each
one. An important loss in volume of firewood was verified
and it determined a significant coefficient of linear correlation between economic
damage and percentage of infested trees.
The economic damage was greater in the sites of smaller quality, where the percentage
of infested trees was greater.
