SUMMARY
The basin of the Turbio River in Chubut, Argentina, is located at the Andean-Patagonic
zone and the predominant vegetation is the “coihue” (Nothofagus
dombeyi) and “ciprés” (Austrocedrus chilensis) mixed forest.
Most than 10% of its surface has potential productive use (agriculture, cattle
raising, silviculture, exploitation of the native forest, and, forestation).
The precipitation and temperature regimes owing to the location of the valley
and its low altitude are higher than in the remaining zone.
Nevertheless, the frost danger looms the entire year.
The area has been topo-climatically characterized presently and in the future
applying Enders´ methodology (1979) so useful for locations with insufficient
meteorological stations. The task was accomplished determining altitude, slope,
monthly mean temperature, monthly mean radiation, monthly mean precipitation,
and, monthly water balance for units of 0.16 km2, then written down in charts
at 1:50.000 scale. With the expected climatic modifications resulting from the
eventual global change, new charts were made for the year 2030 following the
projection of present trends. Consequently, it is possible to expect an advance
of the lenga
(Nothofagus pumilio) forest, of the evergreen Valdivian forest, and, new conditions
for the establishment of prairies and intensive cultivation.

SUMMARY
Vegetation dynamics in the sand banks located between Plottier and Senillosa,
Province of Neuquén was studied. As a first step, an environment analysis
was performed, and landscape, soils and climate were described; then the vegetal
succession was established, through phytosociologycal releves. Characteristics
and position of each community in the vegetation dynamics of the place were
analysed. It was determined that the psamophyta community begins with the eolic
accumulation of sand, represented by the Sporobolus rigens community. The latter
may arise in Psila spartioides or Atriplex lampa communities in hydrohalomorphic
conditions.

vasculares y avasculares.
SUMMARY
This work deals with the study of exotic medicinal plants (cultivated as well
as adventive and/or naturalized) sold and used as herbal medicines in San Luis,
Argentina. The work also gives a checklist of 195 taxa corresponding to 136
genus from 62 families. The plants are alphabetically listed by their scientific
name, also specifying the botanical family, vernacular name before the regional
one, geographical origin, cultivated/ naturalized status, and, main therapeutical
uses attributed to each one. This second contribution attempts to enlighten
the
botanical identity of the natural products (simple and mixed drugs) sold at
the local market and used in the popular and official regional medicine. Thus,
the native (273 taxa) and exotic officinal plants (either cultivated, adventive
and/ or naturalized ones, 195 taxa) reach the figure of 468 species and varieties
for trade and use.

SUMMARY
A record was made of the reptiles at the Ischigualasto Natural Park in the Province
of San Juan, Argentina. The list of species was based on bibliographic data
and field work carried out between 1196 and 1997. The preservation status was
determined by the SUMIN index (Reca et al, 1994). The species registedred were
18, 12 of which are new for the park.
More than half of the species, 55%, has a preservation problem, whether present
or potential, 39% must be considered under «special attention» and
16% under «top priority preservation».

SUMMARY
Endocrinology plays a very active and important role in one of the activities
of fish culture, namely induced breeding of fish that do not reproduce naturally
in ponds and lakes.
We point out that sexual maturation in the grass carp can be achieved out of
its natural spawning season, water temperature and a long photoperiod being
highly influential as environmental modulators of gametogenesis. Moreover, we
believe that the modes for attaining a certain degree of sexual maturation may
be diverse, and even so achieve successful induced spawning.
