protegida.
SUMMARY
The Reserve Caverna de Las Brujas is a particular karst cave located nearby
Bardas Blancas, and it is one of the main touristic attractions of the Department
of Malargüe and the Province of Mendoza.
In the year of 1990 the Provincial Law N° 5544 declared it a protected area.
The cave has suffered a remarkable deterioration at the hands of visitors that
extracted different elements to collect or to sell. This caused considerable
impact in the main halls, of easy access. The cave has several halls decorated
with speleothem. It has wide calcite deposits,
consisting mainly of stalagmites, stalactites, etc.
A set of variables
was measured in each one of the halls to evaluate the aptitude of the cave for
tourist’s use, taking into account the esthetical aspect, the impact over
the heritage, the safety
and operative aspects. The conventional tourist circuit was assessed, searching
for alternatives to generate other circuits.
Other aspects, linked to the public use of the protected area were considered,
such as the planning of the area external sectors, the insertion in the region
and with the population close to the protected area.

SUMMARY
After verifying that flamingoes (Phenicopterus chilensis) nest regularly at
the Llancanelo aguna (Sosa, 1993) and taking into account that this species
is considered really significant because
of its population density and its breeding colonies that represent an interesting
genetic bank for the species (Carbonell, 1990), the decision was made to carry
out a series of field trips for the qualitative evaluation of flamingo populations
and for the description of the reproductive event.
The obtained results revealed the importance of this environment as haven for
reproduction, and for the winter reproductive rest of the austral flamingo.
With the results from surveys and the following of some animals it was determined
that there would be a summer population of even 50,000 flamingoes and that the
reproductive event has four welldefined stages. These span from the group courting
or «marches» (at the end of the
winter) until the offspring leave the nest (beginning of summer).
The nest surveys show that year after year almost 10000 pairs nest in Llancanelo,
in the small surface of coasts or islets not bigger than a hectare.

SUMMARY
A study was made on regeneration of ligneous shrubby species after being treated
with elective clearing and shrub elimination, in a forest of the Arid Chaco,
Prov. of Cordoba. The species were classi fied according to their forage condition
or for other uses. An increase of the species diversity was found with respect
to the existing one before making the treatment.
Several of the species are apt for forage use, which was not observed at the
time of
accomplishing the clearing. A diminution of around 50% in the unusable area
for cattle grazing was registered with respect to the existing situation.
