RESUMEN
Observaciones morfológicas
previas sobre un gran número de
especies permiten establecer una
correspondencia entre la
peculiaridad de los patrones
sistemáticos de las escamas
supraoculares de Squamata y la
posición evolutiva de cada taxón
considerado en los cladogramas
propuestos por Estes et al. (1988).
Aparte del significado biológico
general de estos hallazgos, incluso
para discutidas orientaciones
taxonómicas, la lepidosis
supraocular llega a refrendar una
decisión sistemática con su
evidencia.
Enyaliinae. Siempre en Iguania
Pleurodonta se evidencian ejemplos
como los inconfundibles patrones de
escamas supraoculares de
Opluridae, Leucocephalidae,
Polychrotidae, Tropiduridae. A nivel
específico la interdependencia en
Iguanidae de los géneros Iguana,
Cercosaura, Brachylophus,
Conolophus, puede llevar a
postular pretéritos contecimientos
paleogeográficos. También ameritaénfasis la llamativa separación,
según este criterio morfológico, entre
Iguania y Scleroglossa, la
uniforme lepidosis de centenares de
Gekkota, o la excepcional fisonomía
de Autarchoglossa, en sus ramas tan
individualizadas de Scincomorpha
(Lacertoidea; Teiioidea;
Scincoidea) o Anguimorpha.

ABSTRACT
Former observations on
characteristic patterns of supraocular
scutellation in different specific or
supraspecific taxa of Squamata are
extended and analyzed in this general
critical review. A relationship
between a defined morphological
supraocular lepidosis in a particular
taxon and its evolutionary position
in a classificatory system, such as the
cladograms obtained by Estes et al.
(1988), was tested and confirmed.
Supraocular scales of Squamata are
not morphological elements at
random, but can be assumed as
morphological scale characters,
useful in systematic comparative
examinations and able to strengthen
some discussed new systematic
assessments, such as the family status
of Leiosauridae and its subfamilies
in Pleurodont Iguanians, proposed
by Frost et al. (2001), as well as in
several other cases.

RESUMEN
Dos especies simpátricas de saurios
(Liolaemus coeruleus y Liolaemus
neuquensis) son estudiadas, con el
objetivo de identificar variables
morfométricas y merísticas para su diferenciación. Se analizaron ejemplares
recién colectados de cada especie
(n= 28 y n= 26, respectivamente),
y ejemplares de colecciones. Los
datos del holotipo y paratipos se obtuvieron
de la descripción original.
Se usó calibre electrónico para la
medición de caracteres morfológicos
estandarizados en herpetología, y
estéreo-microscopio para la observación
y recuentos de escamas.
Algunas diferencias significativas
entre las especies se detectaron
mediante el análisis discriminante
y prueba t de Student. L. neuquensis
difiere de L. coeruleus por un mayor
número de escamas alrededor
del cuerpo (variable seleccionada
por el análisis discriminante), menor
melanismo ventral y extremidades
anteriores más cortas (concordante
con la descripción
original). Los machos presentan
además menor tamaño corporal en
L. neuquensis. Ambos sexos difieren
respectivos rangos.

ABSTRACT
Two simpatric species of lizards
(Liolaemus coeruleus and
Liolaemus neuquensis) are
analyzed, with the aim to identify
morphometric and meristic
variables for their diferenciation.
Individuals recently collected of
each species were analyzed (n= 28
and n= 26, respectively), and also
individuals from collections. Data
from holotype and paratypes were
obtained from the original
description. Electronic caliper was
used for measure morphologic
characters standardized in
herpetology, and stereomicroscope
for observation and counting
scales. Some significant differences
between species were detected by
discriminant analysis and Student
t test. L. neuquensis diferred from
L. coeruleus by higher number of
scales around mid-body (variable
selected by discriminant analysis),
lower ventral melanism and shorter
forelimbs (concordant with the
original description). Besides, males
showed lower body size in L.
neuquensis. Both sexes difered by the
color and dorsal black spots
arrangement. The external
chromatism, evident in males and in
the head of females, stands out as
main difference among species.
Some differences were observed in
the second postmental scales. The
similarity of severals morphologic
variables shows the nearest
phylogenetic relationship between
species. This study clarifies the
chromatic patterns of both species,
stands out as discriminant character
the scales counting around mid-body,
and specifies the respective ranks.

RESUMEN
El objetivo del presente trabajo fue
conocer la actividad temporal de
Leptodactylus mystacinus por medio
de registros acústicos, para ello
se utilizó una grabadora conectada
a un temporizador programable
activado durante un minuto por
hora, durante 7 días. Los datos
micro-climáticos se midieron en
enero de 2005, estos fueron la temperatura
del aire a un metro del
suelo, la temperatura del agua, la
intensidad del viento mediante una
escala cualitativa. La cobertura del
cielo se midió en octavos. Además,
se registró la presencia o ausencia
de precipitación. Observamos que
la mayor cantidad de horas de actividad
fue antes y después de las
precipitaciones. El test Chi cuadrado
utilizado no arrojó diferencias
significativas en la cantidad de horas
de actividad entre días, siendo
el canto promedio de 3.42 horas
por día. L. mystacinus utilizó la
franja horaria de 19 a 24 hs, con un
pico de actividad entre las 20 y 22
hs. No hubo relación significativa
entre la actividad y las variables
climáticas medidas.

RESUMEN
La “peperina”, Minthostachys mollis
(Kunth) Griseb. (Lamiaceae), es un
subarbusto aromático nativo de
Sudamérica (Colombia, Venezuela,
Brasil, Ecuador, Perú, Bolivia y
NO y Centro de Argentina), que
habita entre los 500 y 3500 m. La
infusión de sus hojas y flores es
comúnmente utilizada como
antiespasmódica, antidiarreica,
antiemética, antirreumática,
carminativa, entre otras. Ha sido
introducida en el mercado viverista
de Argentina y de Córdoba en particular,
para su comercialización en
macetas. Con el mismo fin y bajo el
mismo nombre vernáculo, se comercializa
una “peperina exótica”,
Calamintha nepeta (L.) Savi subsp.
nepeta (Lamiaceae), herbácea perenne,
originaria de la cuenca del
Mediterráneo. Estos taxones de aroma
semejante, comparten compuestos

ABSTRACT
“Peperina” Minthostachys mollis
(Kunth) Griseb. (Lamiaceae) is an
aromatic subshrub, natural from
South América (Colombia,
Venezuela, Brazil, Ecuador, Peru,
Bolivia and Northwest and center of
Argentina), which is found between
500 and 3500 m. The infusion of its
leaves and flowers is commonly used
as antispasmodic, antidysenteric,
antiemetic, antirheumatic,
carminative, among other uses. This
species was introduced in the forest
nursery market of Argentina and
Córdoba in particular to be
commercialized in flowerpots. An “exotic peperina”, Calamintha
nepeta (L.) Savi subsp. nepeta
(Lamiaceae), herbaceous perennial,
original from the Mediterranean
basin is commercialized with the
same purpose and under the same
vernacular name. These taxa of
similar fragrance share chemical
compounds such as menthol,
pulegone and piperitone, but differ
in their morphological characters.
The purpose of this paper is to bring
out vegetative and reproductive
diagnostic characters useful to
recognize and individualize both
species. The most noteworthy
differences were observed in the
blade shapes and foliar borders, in
the size, color and shapes of the
corolla, and in the number of flowers
per inflorescence. This characters are
illustrated by diagrams and
photographs with easy interpretation
references.

RESUMEN
En Argentina, los productos forestales
no maderables (PFNM) no
han tenido un desarrollo productivo
que permitan su incorporación
en las economías regionales. Un
claro ejemplo es la “goma brea”
obtenida de Parkinsonia praecox
acerca de la cual existen numerosos
estudios sobre sus características
químicas como aditivo, ausencia
de factores tóxicos para el
consumo humano y producción a
campo.
sistema productivo.

ABSTRACT
In Argentina there is no productive
development of the non wood forestry
products (NWFP), so it is difficult to
include them in the regional
economies. As an example, brea gum
from Parkinsonia praecox produces
an exudate gum as a food additive
and safety to use in human
consumption. However, it is not
known, which is the economical
feasibility for the farmers. The aim
of this study is to evaluate the socioeconomical
aspects of the brea gum
production in the Arid Chaco from
Córdoba, Argentina. The
methodological approach for this
study includes socio-economical
surveys, gum production and finally,
labour costs. Data were analyzed
using Benefit/Cost analyses for the
different woodland degradation
states. The economical feasibility of
brea gum production includes Chaco
woodland in good state or “monte”
and “breal”. Additionally, it is
possible to include brea gum
production within the producer of the
social agrarian types with lower
incomes, which economies depends
mostly on external work. The
production of brea gum makes a
substantial contribution into farmers’ incomes, giving more sustainability
to the system.

ABSTRACT
Knowledge on biodiversity has
been acquired parallel to the
modification of the environment so
that the sites on which more
information is available are those
which have simultaneously had
more anthropogenic disturbances.
Isla de los Estados, a Reserve in
Tierra del Fuego Province, has
suffered few changes due to the
difficulties in reaching it and the
hostility of its environment.
However the possibilities to
actualise its tourist potential are
ever closer as the demand for
pristine places increases and the
authorities have before them an
uncommon opportunity to sanction
a Management Plan for the area
before the area is used. The first
step in the preparation of such a
Management Plan is knowledge of
the area and with this end in view
it was decided to draw the
vegetation map for the island. The
map was done using ETM+
Landsat 7 images, aerial
photographs and superimposing
data from the SRTM sensor. The
areas were classified and the
species distribution described
according to the information of
different authors. Isla de los
Estados has ten different
environments, a low proportion of
endemic species in relation to other
oceanic islands and a very low
proportion of exotic species. The
data produced must be verified in
the field to allow the delimitation
of areas of use and the planning of
actions according to conservation
criteria.

ABSTRACT
The vegetation of El Visco gorge, range of Valle Fértil, was studied. In
this area a forest of Acacia visco appears on the sunny slopes. Vegetation
was floristically analyzed and the following plant communities were
established: on rocky outcrops, on flat areas, and riparian and stream
of rivulets.
