SUMMARY
In the Iglesia valley, northwest of San Juan, Argentina, two irrigation systems
belonging to the Angualasto culture (1200-1490 AC) are identified. These systems
are associated with the Blanco river and occupy the northeastern part of the
valley. The system located on the left border is called Buena Esperanza-La Otra
Banda, and the one on the right border is known as Angualasto. The two systems
show the basic structure of modern irrigation channels, and both matrix channels
and small channels for water distri-bution are identified. They are dug down
into the natural terrain or built on artifi-cial embankments. In general they
are impermeabilized with clay, which on occasion is baked. Both systems cover
an extensive rea, only the matrix channels are more than 50 km long, and irrigate
a surface higher than 32,000 ha in the valley of the Blanco river. Currently,
the modern inhabitants practically do not use the water of the Blanco river
for irrigation, they only use the water from other Andean natural water courses.

SUMMARY
The objectives of this work are to study growth form and root anatomy of Stylosanthes
hippocampoides and S. montevidensis var. montevidensis, and to infer their adaptive
characters. Both spe-cies were observed during three consecutive years in the
hilly area of southern Córdoba. Seeds were placed in glass recipients
to study the spatial and temporalsequence of the aerial and subterranean part
during their first year of life. Serial transversal cuts of roots were made.
Both species show phaneroepigeal seedlings. Root ontogeny shows that roots specialize
to accumulate reserves during an early developmental stage, increasing the parenchy-matous
area of vascular tissues and the ray size in the case of S. montevidensis var.
montevidensis, or the ray quantity in S. hippocampoides. There is a relationship
between the amount of accumulated substances and the number of innovation sprouts.
According to the result analysis, the most important characters that define
the growth form of these species are growth direction and branching degree of
axes, characteristics of the innovation zone, and structure of the root system.

SUMMARY
Between august of 2000 and august of 2001 we studied the daily and seasonal
activity patterns of a Liolaemus pseudoanomalus population in center–west
of Argentina, by means of censused carried out between 8:00 and 19:00 hs.
We detected difference in daily an seasonal activity. The activity was not influ-enced
by maximun and minimun temperatures and heliofany. We propose an hypothesis
of seasonal activity based in reproductive event.

SUMMARY
This article reports and discuss the intriguing case of taxonomic relationships
between Phymaturus sp. from Uspallata, Mendoza (2n= 30 cromosomes), still con-sidered
P. flagellifer, and P. palluma = P. flagellifer from Maule Valley, southern
of Chile (2n= 36 cromosomes), having in mind their relationships with Centrura
flagellifer Bell 1843 from the Cordilleran region from Uspallata to Santiago.
The evolutionary position and karyotypes of both Phymaturus groups (the Northern
“flagellifer”, the Southern "patagonicus”), are commented.
The phyletic relationships are analysed among Liolaemus lacking cloacal pores,
corresponding to the “neuquensis” group from Malargüe, Mendoza
and neighbor-ing areas of Argentina and Chile, and therelated forms of the “elongatus”
group. An adecuate caryological information could bring a sustantial contribution.

SUMMARY
The first records of the synantropic scorpion Tityus trivittatus (Buthidae)
from the Argentinean provinces of San Juan and La Rioja are provided, representing
the westernmost known localities of the species. Specimens were collected either
in ur-ban or periurban areas; it is suggested that this scorpion may be involved
in an ongo-ing expansion process.
